kabuto (samurai helmet)

Both the victor
and the vanquished are
but drops of dew
but bolts of lightning —
thus should we view the world

from Hoffman’s ‘Japanese Death Poems’

The classic model of the samurai helmet or kabuto, as shown in the thumbnail photo, is a good subject for beginners in origami.

Having seen a couple of variations of this model, I thought of making my own version. Here it is:

The model is folded beginning with a waterbomb base. The paper used here is a paper placemat which I got from a popular fried chicken restaurant.
